Migrate from the current Linux Player
The Edge migration is designed to avoid having the current Linux Player and Edge both control the same Tilecast screen at the same time.
Before the switch
Section titled “Before the switch”The migration checks the Edge release, the current Player service, the Edge daemon and renderer, display access, and whether the screen’s current content can run on Edge.
If one of those checks fails, the current Linux Player keeps running.
Switching to Edge
Section titled “Switching to Edge”After the checks pass, the migrator stops the current Player, moves the small amount of state Edge needs, and starts Edge.
Edge must then connect to the server, start the expected renderer, load the current presentation, and keep playback moving before the migration is accepted.
If the credential is rejected, the presentation cannot run, Edge enters safe mode, or the old Player comes back unexpectedly, the migration can roll back.
Rollback
Section titled “Rollback”During the migration window, rollback stops Edge and restores the previous Player setup. A crash or power loss during migration does not count as a successful switch.
After Edge has been accepted, the old Player can remain installed but disabled until you choose to remove it later.
Before migrating, check requirements, content compatibility, recent Activity, and your latest server backup.
