Offline playback and recovery
Edge keeps Player state and downloaded content outside the renderer. That means the renderer can restart without throwing away the screen’s cached presentation or server connection details.
Offline playback
Section titled “Offline playback”After Edge downloads and prepares a presentation, it keeps the required files and settings locally. If the Player restarts before the server is reachable, it can start from that saved presentation first and reconnect afterward.
While the Tilecast Server is unavailable, Edge can keep using content and schedules it already has. It cannot receive a new assignment or download files it never received.
Updating content safely
Section titled “Updating content safely”Edge prepares a new presentation before replacing the one that is already playing. If the new content cannot be downloaded, verified, or started, the previous presentation stays available.
Commands and settings
Section titled “Commands and settings”Commands are saved before Edge runs them. If the Player crashes while a command is running, Edge reports that interruption after restart instead of running the same command again.
Player settings are also stored locally with a revision number. A bad or older settings revision does not replace the last one Edge accepted.
Recovery
Section titled “Recovery”tilecastd can restart the WPE renderer without restarting the whole Player. If playback repeatedly fails, Edge can enter safe mode instead of getting stuck in a restart loop.
When the server becomes reachable again, Edge reconnects and gets back in sync with the current Tilecast state.
