Present with AirPlay

AirPlay Present turns one or more supported Linux Players into temporary AirPlay receivers. Android Players do not support AirPlay Present.

Before you start

  • Sign in as an Owner or Administrator.
  • Make sure each target Linux Player is online, enabled, and reports AirPlay-ready capabilities in Studio.
  • For a Display Group session, every member must be ready. Tilecast selects one member as the AirPlay gateway; the group can contain up to 64 displays.
  • The Linux host needs the AirPlay receiver, GStreamer, an H.264 decoder, and local Bonjour/mDNS support. The Linux installation guide describes optional AirPlay setup.

The AirPlay sender must be able to discover and reach the gateway on the local network. If it cannot reach the Player over Ethernet, assign a Presentation Network to an eligible Linux gateway.

Start a session

Section titled “Start a session”

For one display, open Screens > Fleet, select the screen, and open More screen actions > AirPlay. For a Display Group, open the group and select Present · AirPlay.

  1. Review the capability and network status. Resolve any missing requirements before continuing.
  2. Choose a duration: 15, 30, or 60 minutes, or Until stopped (24-hour safety deadline).
  3. Choose the video transport and audio display.
  4. Select Enable AirPlay.
  5. Open Screen Mirroring or AirPlay on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  6. Choose the receiver shown in Studio. Enter the displayed PIN if the sender asks for one.

Studio shows how many group displays are ready and receiving. For one to four displays, Auto uses unicast. It uses multicast only when Tilecast has validated it for the group.

Select Stop AirPlay to end the session early. The session also ends at its expiry. Tilecast then recalculates the signage presentation that applies; see what plays first.

If a session does not start, check the Player’s AirPlay diagnostics, the receiver capability report, Wi-Fi assignment, and whether multicast or Bonjour discovery can cross the sender’s network. Tilecast does not bridge VLANs or bypass client isolation.
